The Power of Digital Portfolios in K-12 Education
Digital Portfolios are reshaping K-12 education by offering a dynamic, student-centered approach to learning and assessment. More than collections of work, these platforms empower students to reflect, organize, and present their learning over time. By supporting student ownership, authentic assessment, instructional continuity, and effective stakeholder communication, digital portfolios facilitate deeper engagement and promote academic growth. This article examines the advantages of implementing digital portfolios across grade levels, highlighting popular platforms such as Seesaw, Google Sites, and Wix. It examines how these tools facilitate reflection, track progress, and foster professional development skills, ultimately offering a more comprehensive understanding of student achievement. As education continues to evolve, digital portfolios offer a scalable and impactful roadmap for personalized learning and long-term success.
This article follows my innovation plan, and the panel interview gets high school teachers' opinions on how digital portfolios can benefit their instruction. Below the final article in a pdf document, interviews created in response to this article, and a group discussion about how digital portfolios can be incorporated into K-12 education. Below the videos, you will find my writing process, group discussions, and group evaluations of my writing ideas. I have also created a blog post about my journey through writing this article and interviewing fellow teacher about over the power of digital portfolios in K-12 education.
