Reflecting on the COVA (Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authentic learning environments) learning approach during the Applied Digital Learning program, I've found it to be a powerful tool. It has instilled in me a sense of purpose in how I structure a lesson and ensure that I provide all the necessary resources for the learner's success. My innovation plan, which outlines my strategy for all students to create their own ePortfolios, is a testament to the transformative impact of COVA.
As stated in my innovation proposal, I am having my graphic design in my level one class I have the students create a Google site. I believe a Google site is a great starting place, even though it doesn’t give them access after graduation. When they get to graphic design two, they will create a Wix ePortfolio. For the students currently in my graphic design level two class, I started by having my students create their own personal logo that they then use on their own Wix ePortfolio. Those elements ensure my students have choice, voice, and authentic learning. The issue I am having is that many of my junior-level students who are starting their ePortfolios have been using their school accounts. It is time-consuming to make sure that they use their personal email accounts to own their ePortfolio to ensure the students have access after they graduate.
I use Wix to host my own ePortfolio, so I have some experience and knowledge to answer students' questions about adding and creating a website on Wix. The problem I am running into is the constant changes that Wix is making, which makes me seem like I don’t know the answer, and as a perfectionist, I don’t like that feeling. For my graphic design, three/practicum students, who are all seniors, already have an ePortfolio in Wix. I’m requiring them to constantly update their ePortfolio with the work they have done in class. In this class, I am tasked with finding internships, and I use the students' ePortfolios to allow the businesses to choose the student they want to intern at their company.
